Carol's Catch-Up: August 2024

We emerge from winter and look forward to Spring

I hope you have survived the late nights and early mornings when we’ve enjoyed watching some of the exciting and wonderful events in the Olympic Games. We saw some lovely parts of the city of Paris, and the venues seemed to always be packed with people. My favourites were the swimming and gymnastics, and I admit that I enjoyed most of it on replay the next day - my need for sleep outweighed my patriotism most days! Just to see the athletes striving to do their best was fantastic though, win, lose or draw. It was also nice to wake up to positive news and celebrations of great achievements, as opposed to the usual ‘news’ headlines we have these days.
We are so close to the end of winter and I am happy about this. Some days are getting into the 20’s which is great as I get to enjoy a walk or sitting out on my deck bathing in the sunshine and having my lunch.

There is a bit of rain around this week which will be good for the garden, but hopefully the sun will break through a little. With spring comes unfortunately the hay fever and sinus but we are fortunate to have lots of treatment options now for these, to make this season a lot more pleasant. My garden is loving the warmer days and the roses are starting to shoot, and of course the grass is having to be mown more often too.

I am looking forward to heading to the Flinders Ranges on Friday for three weeks, and I am hoping to see lots of wild flowers. I believe it is a spectacular time to visit with so many colours and shades of mauve, pink, yellow and white. My husband and I are taking our 4-wheel drive vehicle on its first real road trip so the fun will begin when we put to the test all the theories we’ve discussed from the comfort of the kitchen table! I am sure we will have a few surprises along the way.

I am looking forward to being able to pull off the road at a pretty spot in the middle of nowhere, dropping the table down off the back of the van, and sitting down to enjoy lunch amongst the birdsong. We are staying at some working stations up the northern end of the Ranges and doing a couple of day trips exploring our wonderful country. I haven’t been through this area before so I’m really looking forward to it.

With the weather warming up the layers of clothing start coming off too, and we can see whether our bodies are where we would like them to be. Winter can be a time of rest, and I am the first to admit that the cold weather makes me want to eat more!

Now is the time that we can set our summer goals though and start planning how we want our bodies to function, and how we want them to look. We’ve got lots of strength options to help you build back a little muscle definition in your arms, or cardio options if it’s time to start working off anything that wasn’t there at the start of winter.
