Carol's Catch-Up

The festivities begin with Easter

As we start a new month and I look at the last month, they both appear to be very different in the sense that for one thing we have no Public Holidays in May and this is going to be a relief to many people as we continue to get our lives back to our normal.
Easter was our first big occasion for the month and boy did we have some fun. I made a little change to the rules for our annual Easter egg hunt (I have to keep it challenging!), but unfortunately it led to mass confusion. It took 10 minutes to make sure everyone knew what they were required to collect, and how many of each kind of egg, before we could even start the race - and even when it was over I’m still not sure the kids collected what they were supposed to!! After an initial mad scramble, and Trudi claiming she’d won only to discover she was still short a Crunchie egg, my daughter-in-law eventually took out the trophy. Trudi, as the reigning champion, awarded the trophy to the new winner while still protesting the change of rules that had thwarted her attempts for a back-to-back win. We had meatballs as our theme for lunch, serving up dishes with chicken, lamb and beef, and everyone enjoyed them before our yummy desserts.

The following weekend we had our grandchildren for three days and one of those days we headed to Cape Shank and did a two hour walk. We discovered lots of little fish in the rockpools and after that we had our lunch. We finished off with a hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on the beach where Brent had set up his camping stove, and that was a great lot of fun for the kids. We managed to keep most of the sticky marshmallow off the stove which was good - it would have been a nightmare to clean off.

Lastly we had three birthdays thrown into the month and that just about finished me off. I have been trying to have only one event on each weekend as it quickly becomes all too busy and I don’t feel that I have enjoyed the occasions - I don’t want to feel like I am just going through the motions and attending parties without really enjoying them. We really have to keep an eye on this one as if we want to stay present and peaceful we don’t want too much spoiling that.

As we head into the colder months of the year, we have to work extra hard at trying to keep our exercise program up. Our online and DVD exercise programs provide a great opportunity for you to exercise several times a week, while keeping nice and warm inside. You may do a face to face class but you can then easily put on one of our classes and exercise the other days of the week, and make sure you are still working on your balance and stretching too. It’s coming up to Mother’s Day so one of our DVDs could be a great gift for the special women in your life, if you’re looking for something practical and beneficial! Order by Friday this week to get yours in time, either directly through our online store or send me an email to [email protected].

Keep safe, and most importantly keep building into your own lives - it’s never too late to start something new.
