Find a fun run or walk and get involved

To keep active with friends!

Needing a little motivation to get out and moving? Why not find a good cause and sign up to their fun run? Gather a group together, tell your family about it, ask for donations, and get involved. There are lots of fundraiser events every year that you can choose from!
We were delighted to be invited by Dementia Australia to lead the warm-up for their annual Memory Walk & Jog fundraiser in May 2022. And even more delighted to see so many people signing up to get active for a good cause. It was a brisk autumn morning in Melbourne, and the coffee cart was the busiest tent at the start line, but after everyone had had their coffee fix they were ready to get into it and hit the track.

Joining in on fun runs and walks is a great way to get involved, get active, and get connected. Lots of not-for-profit organisations hold fundraising events like this, so it’s easy to find one that aligns with your values, that you are passionate about, or that you have had a personal connection with.

Whether you sign up by yourself or you pull together a team of family and friends, ask people in your community to sponsor you and you can turn your exercise into cash for a worthy cause. It’s also a great way to meet new people. We know of people that have met while they’re walking, and who now meet up at the same event to catch up and share the experience together each year. It’s also a great excuse for getting out of the house and being part of something bigger.

If running with the masses isn’t quite your thing, some organisations are even running virtual events, where you can do your steps around your neighbourhood or your local park!

If you already have a cause in mind, sign up now for this year or next year’s event. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few events that run each year you can choose from.
