Looking back on Cape York adventures
On reflection, it’s very hard for me to explain what I have seen and where I have been since I wrote to you last.
My trip to Cape York was in one word “incredible” - there is no other word to describe it. From the minute my husband picked me up in Cairns, we were on the adventure of a lifetime.
My trip to Cape York was in one word “incredible” - there is no other word to describe it. From the minute my husband picked me up in Cairns, we were on the adventure of a lifetime.

That’s not to say it didn’t have its challenges though. Driving the last thousand kilometres to the tip of Cape York was rough - literally! There were corrugations like I had never seen, and driving on them was very difficult, physically and mentally, but … I loved it. (My shoulders let me know at the end of each day that they hadn’t enjoyed it as much!)
Visiting scenic waterholes and swimming became commonplace, always with a check for crocodiles first, and the sheer beauty of the red dirt contrasting the blue, blue sky was mesmerising.

There were two highlights for me. Firstly, driving 2,500 kilometres on some hairy roads, using every driving skill that I know - and some new ones. It’s hard to prepare for something like that. The other highlight was experiencing the beautiful Lawn Hill Gorge, which included seven picturesque waterfalls. I feel so privileged to have seen the Gorge, and all the other stunning places along the way, that I know many other Australians won’t have the opportunity to see.

And now, it’s back to business! I must get my mind back to other important things like the wonderful time I had delivering seven online classes in October to celebrate the different Seniors Festivals across Australia. There were lots of new faces who went through their paces and really enjoyed their classes, and were positive about the part that keeping healthy and exercising should play in our lives. I look forward to seeing some of these participants in my live weekly classes where they can continue to work on their strength, cardio and balance.

I will be hosting the family again on Christmas Day, and I’m looking forward to a traditional roast, just like my mother used to make when I was growing up. Our theme this year is ‘Native Christmas’, so my daughter has been tasked with the table decorations, and she will incorporate native leaves, branches, and flowers, to make the occasion special. Trudi and I will be adding a few native flavours to our side dishes and desserts - cocoa beans are native aren’t they?!
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, full of blessings and I look forward to talking to you in 2026 when we turn around and do it all again!
