Carol's Catch-Up: August 2022

Longer days as we see the end of winter approaching

We have whipped through another four weeks and already we are in the last month of our winter. We’ve had a few biting weeks with overnight temperatures below zero, but on the whole I don’t think it has been as wet and cold as previous winters. When I leave my house for work at 6.45am, I can now see lovely light peeking over the horizon and it does wonders for my soul - Spring is coming.

I have been delighted to spend time with some of you this month in our live classes, and the dance classes have been especially enjoyable - or should I say hilarious? I am glad nobody was looking too hard at me as some of my ‘groovy’ moves didn’t look too groovy, and I often found myself laughing at what I looked like. I have no idea what everyone else was doing, and if they were laughing at me or themselves, but oh well - they say a good laugh is good for the soul. Dancing still brings me great joy after all these years.
In my garden, the winter seedlings have been in full bloom and I am really enjoying looking out the window at my primulas, camellias and pansies which are all so colourful. It won’t be long before I will be taking out the old seedlings and putting in the new ones. The mulch that I put over most of my garden a few months ago has been a big success as I have had hardly any weeds over the winter - it’s been a wonderful respite.

In late August my husband and I are returning to one of our favourite places in the world - Noosa - and I can’t wait. I think it is the tenth time we’ve gone, and we never tire of the beauty of that part of the world. This visit will be a little busier than normal as we are catching up with three lots of friends who live up in Queensland now.
By the time we do our socialising, and some of the lovely walks that are available for us to do, I can see we will be back on the plane coming home. We need to cross our fingers very hard that we won’t have a plane cancellation or delay as it has been very prevalent lately with travel within Australia. I hear it’s been raining a lot too in the north, so hopefully this will have passed by the time we arrive!

I have been watching a little bit of the Commonwealth Games and it always astounds me how these athletes just keep on getting faster and faster at their events. My other love, AFL football, is quickly closing in on the pointy end of the season where a lot of teams are vying for the top eight positions, and then of course we are into the finals. My team hasn’t made the final eight this year so I will be moving on very quickly as soon as the season finishes! We had a great get together with all my family last weekend to watch our team play, and my lounge room seems to be shrinking as the grandkids are growing taller - something I am sure many of you are familiar with.

Keep on exercising for the last hard month of winter, and then you will be bursting with energy as we enter Spring.

Until next time,
Carol
