Carol's Catch-Up: February 2025

New year, new me!

2025: A quarter century gone by
It struck me the other day that we are already a quarter of the way through this century. Can you believe it? Where on earth have those first 25 years gone? It feels like just yesterday we were all fretting about Y2K. Remember that whole hullabaloo? We were worried about getting stuck in lifts, losing our money in the banking system, or the world blowing up at the stroke of midnight 1999/2000. Looking back now, it all seems a bit silly, doesn't it? Everything went smoothly in the end, after all.
New year, new hips!
This year's been a real doozy for me, unlike any I've experienced before. I've got not one, but two shiny new titanium hips! They're all settled in and working like a charm. I've been moving a tad slower, and there were a few hiccups with the second operation, but I'm happy to report I'm well on my way to doing everything I could before – and then some. Just try and hold me back now!

Rehab was a bit of a slog, I'll admit. Tedious and boring, but boy, was it necessary. I even threw in six weeks of pool rehab, which did wonders for my range of motion, especially in the legs.

Spending time with all those warm water warriors taught me a thing or two about perspective. There I was, just passing through, while many others had been doing their only possible movement there for years and years. Really makes you grateful for what you can do, doesn't it? We've got a responsibility to ourselves to keep our bodies ticking along as best we can.

Summertime fitness
This summer's been an absolute cracker from where I'm standing – I'm a sucker for warm weather! I've enjoyed the storms rolling through, and it's always nice when we get a dumping of summer rain.

When you're at your classes during the hot weather, make sure you've got plenty of water handy and keep up your fluids. If the heat's really getting to you, have a chat with your instructor. They can tweak some moves to make them less strenuous. It's crucial to keep up with your exercise program, even if it's just moderate. We have to maintain that fitness and keep the habit going!

I've been excited to be back teaching live on Zoom this month. We are now offering five live 30-minute and 45-minute classes each week during the school term. Come and join Bree and myself for some fun while you exercise. We have a chat before and after class and I'm enjoying speaking to participants from all over Australia. You can too, right from your living room!

If you are already a part of an exercise program, perhaps you have a friend or neighbour that can't get out of the house, and our Zoom classes might be a great option for them. Please pass on the information and invite them along! You can find out more on our TAF/Live webpage. (Or you can ask Betty!)

Keep strong and keep exercising.
