You’re still young, so how do you feel about ageing? What does ‘getting older’ mean to you?
Ageing is not something I think about often - I feel quite young and energetic in the present moment - but I am not afraid of ageing. Age is really just a number for me - I am more afraid of not being able to do the things I want to do as I get older. Health plays a large part in the ageing process, but thankfully I’m healthy at the moment. Getting older is something that happens to all of us, and I know I will embrace the ageing process with a positive attitude and continue to look after myself so I can keep doing what I want to do.

What do you enjoy doing at the moment? What are you looking forward to in the future?
My love entertaining, cooking, traveling, and spending lots of time outdoors in the garden and outdoor spaces. I am looking to lighten the load by dropping to part-time work in the future, which will leave more time to do the things that I enjoy with my partner. We want to get to the stage where we can wake up in the morning and just decide to hop in the car and drive with no time restrictions or commitments.
How old do you feel? Have you had to overcome any stereotypes from other people, because of your age?
I do not feel old, or really feel my age - most people say I look younger than I am! I’ve been lucky that I don’t feel I’ve been treated because of my age - people see me for me and not my age.
How long have you been exercising in general? What has that looked like?
I have been exercising for 30 years. While it’s a very ingrained habit now, the level of exercise for me has changed over the years. In my 20’s I was doing a lot more higher intensity and higher impact exercise, but I’ve realised that I can’t keep that up and my regime is a little less strenuous now!
How often do you exercise? What is your regime now?
Prior to COVID I was doing two classes a week at night, with some walking through the week. Since taking out a membership with Third Age Fitness though I am doing 6-7 classes a week and loving it! My partner and I also enjoy keeping healthy by taking long walks. Daily exercise is important for us.
What is your motivation to keep exercising? What are your goals moving forward?
I want to feel good, I want to feel fit, and I want to continue being active through my older years. I also want to lose a few of those unwanted kilos!
How do your family feel about your exercise program?
They are very supportive, and my husband has even joined me a couple of times to do an online class! My commitment to exercise encourages my partner and kids to exercise and look after themselves too, so I am pleased about that.
What motivated you to take out a membership with Third Age Fitness?
During COVID I did struggle a little to keep exercising. My gym had closed so I wasn’t doing my regular classes, and walking around the block wasn’t really cutting it for me. I started having back issues from sitting all day working from home - I wasn’t walking to walk, or moving around the office - and so this was the catalyst. I needed to get back into it again and start strengthening my body.
What do you like about the Third Age Fitness workouts?
I like the fact that there are a variety of classes that focus on the different areas of the body. You never get bored and you can do as many classes as you want, and whenever you want to do them. There are some days that I do aerobics workout, and then later I might decide to do a combo class to improve my strength. It’s great that I can exercise in the privacy of my own home, but also that I can access the classes from anywhere.
What physical and mental improvements have you seen since taking out your Third Age Fitness membership?
I feel much more energetic and back to my old self - or even better than I used to be actually, since I am now exercising more than I was. My aches have disappeared, my back is stronger, and my muscle tone has come back too. I have more energy at the end of the day, so it’s great.
Why should people take out a Third Age Fitness membership?
Membership in Third Age Fitness offers you the flexibility to exercise in the comfort of your own space, and it is an inexpensive way to keep fit and healthy. I am thoroughly enjoying all the variety of classes the membership offers, and I’m looking forward to seeing more new classes in the months to come.
